Overview

Role: UX Designer

Individual commitment by everyone in my team, made this start-up successful.

“To get value back to the organization, creating value for user is essential.”
Mitti means Soil. It is thought which has shades of meaning like love, faith, patriotism, a feeling of doing good things for people you respect and care, It is an act of doing something in return when you feel, you owe something to the country you live in.

Impact

Mitti believes that the Indian handicraft and handloom sector comprising of more than 23 million artisans plays a very important role in the decentralized economy of the India as the second biggest contributor after agriculture. If preserved, nurtured and promoted properly through sustainable and scalable enterprise, it will not only generate livelihood and income for the rural as well as urban people of India but also save the nation from losing its unique identity in the world of homogenous mass production of consumer goods which do not have any heritage value, personal touch and human story behind them and which are also not very environment friendly.
Mitti envisions being a leading social enterprise brand in nurturing and promoting Indian traditional and contemporary handicrafts, folk art and handloom products handcrafted by immensely talented yet poor rural and semiurban artisans in domestic as well as foreign urban market spaces. The shop owner also conducts workshops and organize exhibition and sale of handicrafts. This project made an online platform for handicraft sale.

Process

Research Goals

We began by defining modules of project and broke it in three releases.

  1. Cutting edge UI
  2. More animation and moving data
  3. Prototype of Virtual Sale Assistant

We planned by answering following questions:

  • What value are we creating and how it is different than existing E-commerce websites?
  • What information is important for designers?
  • How willing are people to contribute towards the community and how are we connecting them via UI?
  • What kind of question-answers will give buyers real life shopping experience on website by providing virtual assistant.

Results

We created an Online platform where buyers can see photoes of artists making handicrafts and pots, buy online, send feedback and contact organizations for donations and bulk orders.
A prototype of Virtul assistance is able to answer questions by searching keywords in the database given.

Summary

Our final impacts included the following key insights.
  • Information: Sources and origin of art, efforts and traditions were directly shown to the buyers.
  • Contributions: Students, Teachers, Tourists and Visitors were willing to help artists to get appreciation and amount they deserve for their talent.
  • The look and feel: A clean and simple landing page, self explainatory to less educated or non technical user group.
